Zirconium Dental Crowns

Zirconium Dental CrownsZirconium dental crowns are the highest quality products which applications have been consistently satisfactory in achieving desired aesthetics, durability, texture harmony and naturalness.

In aesthetic dentistry, the use of metal supported porcelain crowns is fading out gradually on each day left behind. This system, which has all the features we desire, such as biological harmony, natural appearance, aesthetics and mechanical resistance, uses a white alloy called ‘zirconium’ as supporting structure instead of metals.

We prefer zirconium supported porcelain because it is aesthetic enough to be used in front teeth and robust enough to be used in rear teeth. These systems improve the quality of life of individuals.

WHERE IS ZIRCONIUM USED?

  • In case of hereditary structural coloration, in advanced coloration (antibiotic, fluorine, etc.) which does not yield favorable results using methods such as bleaching,
  •
  • In individuals with previously cut teeth,
  •
  • For joining split teeth (diastema closure),
  •
  • In people with metal-supported bridges - crowns,
  •
  • Correction of broken teeth,
  •
  • Correcting old fillings with deteriorated color and structure,
  •
  • Correction of irregularly and misaligned teeth (as an alternative to orthodontic treatment),
  •
  • In teeth with excessive material loss that cannot be restored by filling

ADVANTAGES OF ZIRCONIUM RESTORATIONS

  • Insulation feature does not develop sensitivity to hot and cold.
  • Zirconium creates an aesthetic aspect quite similar to the natural tooth structure as it lets the light pass through. Even perfectly processed metal supported porcelains display a dullness and artificiality. Therefore, zirconium is preferred particularly in the front teeth.
  • Metal supported porcelains give a dark void appearance under certain lights, and appear as if they do not exist in the mouth. Zirconium, like natural teeth, transmits all forms of light.
  • Metal supported porcelain crowns-bridges (coatings) are mechanically bonded to the teeth. Zirconium is attached to the teeth mechanically and chemically. Therefore, they have a much higher retention than metal supports.
  • Since there is no metal in its substructure, there is no dark line at the crown-gingival level, which exhibits a more aesthetic appearance.
  • Porcelain surfaces will be extremely smooth to minimize stains and calculus formation caused by smoking and similar effects.
  • Zirconium does not change color due to external factors such as coffee, tea and smoking.
  • It is a healthy material that does not cause taste disorders in mouth, gingival problems and halitosis (foul breath).
  • The pressure and bruises on the gingiva originating from previously made metal supported porcelain crowns is totally eliminated with the application of zirconium crowns (coatings), which helps to obtain an aesthetic and natural appearance.
  • When the gingiva recedes, zirconium retains its aesthetic appearance, whereas, metal-supported porcelains create a bad appearance in the area where they meet with the teeth.
  • Porcelains with Zirconium substructure do not pose the risk of allergy to some metals (nickel, etc.) used in the substructure.
  • It can be used in people who have or who are prone to have gingival disease thanks to its harmony with our body. Zirconium has perfect compatibility with the gingiva and creates no gingival problems, if oral hygiene is provided properly.

APPLICATION OF ZIRCONIUM RESTORATIONS

  • First of all, anesthetics are applied, and dental impression is obtained following preparation of the teeth. Temporary crowns are prepared and bonded on the surface of the teeth to avoid exposure of the dental surfaces until the next session. This also prevents your teeth from any probable sensitivity that may occur due to exposure to ambient factors.
  • In the second phase, the substructure prepared in the laboratory is checked for gingival adaptation.
  • In the last phase, aesthetic proofing is performed. Prior to the bonding process, the model prepared in the desired color is checked for fitness to your teeth and face in one or two sessions of the process. On the average, all these procedures are completed within 7 to 10 days.
